Wood, acrylic & singing bowl

This sculptural installation involves three carved wooden columns forming the three points of a triangle.  The columns are painted black with subtle streaks of blue, green and yellow. In the centre is a carved wooden pedestal on which is a singing bowl.  Sound is a form of energy which can traverse spatial boundary and thus connect different forms of space - e.g. the internal and external, or the visible and invisible.  Singing bowls are sometimes used in religious rituals and as aids to meditation. The mysterious quality of the sound of the bowl is matched by the dark and primitive appearance of the wooden columns and the triangular configuration.   When the piece is exhibited, viewers are encouraged to play the bowl.
